Technology's Impact on Society: Homo Faber and the Beast in Us
SESSION #5 - HOMO FABER AND THE BEAST IN US
THE RISE OF THE WARRIOR APES (James Reed - 2017)
Director James Reed is strongly dedicated to telling the chimps story in the most possibly accurate way in this documentary, which accuracy brings the viewer to strongly question to what level primates' behavior mirrors ours, and what lesson can this actually still teach.
Rise of the Warrior Apes is a dynamic and engaging film based on the work of anthropologists who have been researching for more than 20 years chimpanzees at Ngogo in Kibale National Park, Uganda. Narration focuses on the complex rivalry between males chimps, but it actually shows violence, brutal power, friendship and diplomacy.
Do we still need to watch animals to learn what humanity should not repeat? To what extent what happens to chimps is a mirror of ongoing human conflicts?
"Someone who is big and strong and insults everyone is not necessarily an alpha male"
- Frans de Waal
